Tarwirri attends Solution Focused Justice Symposium on Gadigal Country

Tarwirri President Andrew Williams, Secretary Candice Jackson and Executive Officer Tekan Cochrane were honoured to attend the Solution Focused Justice: A Cross-Jurisdictional Symposium on Gadigal Country on 20–21 February 2026.

Hosted by the Bugmy Bar Book, the NSW Bar Association, Te Kura Kaiwhakawā (New Zealand Institute of Judicial Studies) and the University of Technology Sydney, the symposium brought together judicial officers, legal practitioners, academics and community organisations from across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

The symposium showcased approaches to solution-focused, trauma-informed and culturally safe justice, highlighting emerging best practice and providing an important opportunity to strengthen connections across jurisdictions.

For Tarwirri, these conversations are particularly important. Justice systems must be capable of responding to people’s lived experiences, culture and communities, rather than focusing solely on process.

The symposium provided a valuable opportunity to hear from those working to improve justice outcomes and to consider how justice systems can become more responsive, culturally safe and effective for the communities they serve.

Tarwirri is proud to have been part of this important cross-jurisdictional conversation and thanks the organisers and all those involved for their continued commitment to improving justice for First Nations peoples and communities.
